Job Description:
Under general supervision of the MGHfC Ambulatory Nurse Manager, the individual collects specimens for laboratory analysis including blood and urine, perfoms EKG’s and POCT and triage.
Job Responsibilities:
- Obtain vital signs on infants, toddlers school age and teenage patients.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Medical assistant proficient in phlebotomy. Adheres to Best Practice Standards; two patient identifiers, order of draw, proper hand hygiene, patient identification.
- Effectively performs venipuncture as well as skin puncture applicable on adults, adolescents and school aged children, pediatric venipuncture , finger and heel sticks on infants or toddlers or preschool age children.
Job Requirements:
- Maintain adequate supply inventory and check expiration dates.
- Facilitates flow of patients from waiting room to lab in a timely manner.
- Ability to recognize emergency situations and respond accordingly.
- Attention to detail.
- Capable of working in a fast paced, high turnover environment with colleagues, caring for diverse pediatric patient population.
- Familiar with performing POCT and EKG’s.
Qualification & Experience:
- Recent experience in phlebotomy, willingness to learn pediatric phlebotomy.
- Familiar with EMR type documentation.
- BLS certification
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of training program that includes phlebotomy skills with demonstrated and acceptable competency in phlebotomy.
