Job Description:

Georgia-Pacific has an opening for a Chip Mill Operator at our Palatka Chip Mill.  Our mill processes pine and hardwood into chips that are used for energy and in the paper-making process. Operators play a vital role in the productivity of our mill.  They ensure that our equipment is running properly and producing a quality product.  As part of a small team, your contribution is critical to the success of the whole operation.  Your fellow operators will be dependent on you so that the team can meet its goals. Job Responsibilities:

• Ensuring safe operation of production equipment, (e.g., chipper) and mobile equipment, (e.g., forklifts, hysters, loaders, and cranes)
• Supporting the safety goals of the facility by ensuring a hazard-free work area
• Troubleshooting issues with equipment and making repairs as necessary
• Working with other operators to meet the quality and production goals of the mill

Job Requirements:

• At least one (1) year of experience working within a manufacturing or industrial environment
• At least one (1) year of experience operating heavy equipment
• Current forklift or other heavy equipment operator’s certificate
• Experience in a wood products manufacturing environment
• Experience troubleshooting equipment
• Experience with fabrication and welding

Qualification & Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Experience using Microsoft Office (e.g., creating/sending emails and creating documents)
• At least six (6) months of experience working with hand tools, operating production equipment, and/or working with machines
• Willing and able to work any shift, holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed
• Willing and able to work variable start times
• Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, to include wearing safety equipment
• Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environment
• Willing and able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing and/or pulling for up to twelve (12) hours a day
